Cotton Picking

The cotton tree - still ok after snapping in half - has been blooming and producing pods. Maddie and I were out picking a few pods but before we did we had a visitor - a mud wasp! (black and yellow makings) 

 Even though it was small - we left it alone and watched it. It looked to be grabbing some fibers (nest?) 

 While that was going on, the Thai Basil is seriously flowering. The long purple stems with its small while flowers also had visitors. Bees! Maddie counted three little guys busily working. 

Well after the wasp flew away. We picked the cotton and Maddie picked all the little black seeds out. Now to figure out - what to do with all the cotton. (Loom? lol)

High Winds

This whole weekend has had 30-45 mph gusts. Last night the yard took some damage. 

Our cotton tree that was about 10' high, snapped and fell over into the neighbors yard. :(

Our guava tree (still standing as of now) is bending in the wind. We've had to tie it up using yarn and hope for the best. Same thing with the papaya trees. They are heavy with fruit.

Hoping for the best and that this ends soon.
